An electric cast of candidates, each with their own unique ideas on battling crime. Such an enthusiastic attendance we have had this time around; it lends pause as to where exactly all of you were for the last two elections, but I suppose former obligations were to blame for that.

Remember, citizens, that it takes more than a sense of justice to uphold the law. Mirth and promises alone do not save lives.

-"Decking the halls" is much more involved. Natural materials such as holly and mistletoe are still used, though not as much as the artificially made tinsel. It is a common sight to see it wrapped around just about everything. (due to it's synthetic nature, could it make a good chemical compound? Will look into this)

-The Germanic tradition of keeping a decorated tree has now become a widely accepted, popular custom. These Christmas trees are gaily decorated with various brightly colored ornaments, beads, tinsel, and are topped by either a star or angel figurine. Note to self: Procure a small one. The discarded needles will prove an annoyance.

-"Santa Claus" is an American invention, although an amalgam of American, Dutch, and English traditions and legends. He is based off of Saint Nicholas, but the religious aspect is lost under the many layers of superficial lore. Rides a magical sleigh steered by flying reindeer and delivers presents to all the "nice" children of the world. Ones classified as "naughty" receive coal (is this really the best concept to preach to children? Obviously a tale perpetuated by adults). Is extremely overweight, but has the disturbing ability to wedge himself down chimneys with a sack of presents. Children are fiercely adamant in their belief that he is a factual entity; at this point, it would be best to humor that..

-"Jingle Bell Rock" is an irksome carol. A pox on whoever wrote that one.

-Note to self: Find gifts for the following: Katrina, Jolly, the Princess, Rose, Eliza, Faye, Commander Vimes...most certainly not Raoul Duke.

Because everyone has a right to the truth, no matter how harsh it may be. And, if it will save a life, all the more reason to pursue it. The thought of people such as my father living free and unpunished sickened me more than the possibility that if I stayed with him, I would find myself leading the life he wanted me to have. I wanted to bring men like him to justice and reveal what hidden atrocities and wickedness they were capable of, and I wanted to be efficient about it. None of this medieval brutality and inquisitional ferocity, but through modern science and up-to-date technology. The more I investigated and deduced and invented, the less guilty and helpless I felt. With every bit of knowledge I gleamed, I intended to put it to good use for the better of the world and every oppressed denizen victim to its cruelty.

In the end, I suppose that's all it boils down to. I had a desire to protect others and I followed it. There is little more to say.
